The Hannibal Journal November 9, 1849
California Fever. -- The recent cheering news from California, has set some of 
our citizens in a perfect phrenzy to get to the gold diggings.  Several young 
men left this city on Monday last en route for San Francisco, via Panama.  We 
understand a company is forming to go the overland route early in the spring.
