Hannibal Journal January 14, 1847
Returned. -- A negro man, belonging to John H. Gay, Esq., of this city, was 
persuaded away from his master last August by an abolitionist.  The slave 
thief left him in Scott county, Illinois, from whence the negro started back 
home, where he arrived on day before yesterday; perfectly satisfied with the 
small taste of freedom.
