OBITUARY.

DIED on Friday, the 27th ult., Mrs. Frances Shackelford, in the 67th year of 
her age.

It is with feelings of no ordinary sorrow, that we record the death of this 
estimable lady.  For several years she lived among us, and in every position 
of life -- as mother, friend, and neighbor, her course was most exemplary, 
winning for her the respect and love of all who knew her.  She was gifted by 
nature with a heart full of kindness, and a spirit of active benevolence, and 
blessed, at an early period of life, with these hopes and graces that spring 
only from a reception of the holy truth of Christianity.  Her cheerfulness 
ofdisposition made her a favorite companion of all -- both old and young.  Her 
home was the abode of hospitality, and the needy never turned away empty-
handed from her door.  In sickness and distress, she was ever among the first 
and most active, in bringing relief to the afflicted.  In a word, she was, in 
the highest sense of the terms, a lady and a Christian -- in life beloved, and 
in death deeply and sincerely lamented.

Truly has death removed from among us, the spirit of one we loved; and the 
grave hath folded her in its dark, cold embrace forever from our sigt.  Yet 
she is not altogether lost to us; she lives in our memory, and the remembrance 
of her virtues serves like a balm, to heal our wounded hearts, and to beckon 
us to follow to her abode of bliss and immortality.  "Blessed are the dead who 
die in the Lord."
