Marion County, MO Deeds - John Berry > John Ridd & Rufus Matthews In consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me paid I John Berry have this day bargained and sold to John Ridd and Rufus Mathews a certain girl slave named Catharine aged eleven years and I hereby covenant to warrant and defend the title to said girl herein conveyed against the claims of all and every person or persons whatever subject nevertheless to the following condition whereas I the said John Berry have this day executed my note payable to the Bank of the State of Missouri for the sum of one hundred dollars borrowed money and whereas the said Ridd and Mathews have signed said note as joint makers with myself at my request and for my accommodation. Now if the said Ridd and Mathews or either of them shall have to pay any part of said debt either on the above note or any note that may be executed to renew the same in accordance with the custom of the Bank then this instrument to continue in full force but should I pay the whole of said debt and release said Ridd and Mathews from all liability for the same then to be null and void.
