Mercer County, Missouri War of 1812 Pension Letters - Mahala Huff >From the National Archives, Washington, DC: (Letter Number One) In Re Mahala Huff, 30373 Widow of James Huff, War of 1812. Mercer, Mo., March 20, 1925 Commissioner of Pensions, Washington, D.C. Dear Sir, Perhaps one of the rarest cases in the country is that of the lady whose claim is herewith attached. Mrs. Mahala Huff is 106 years of age and her husband fought in the War of 1812. If it is possible within the province of your office to grant her a special pension of $50.00 per month, we feel sure you will gladly do so. we have no further argument. We can only submit the claim for the increase. If you cannot allow this claim, please return the papers that we may try for the increase at the next session of Congress. Very truly, W. H. Lowry (Signed under name) WHL/M (Letter Number Two) Rev. & 1812 Wars Section April 28, 1926. Honorable Louis C. Cramton, House of Representatives.
