Volunteers, was enrolled on the 4th day of January, 1862 , at Rolla, Mo., for 3 years, and is reported: on rolls - Jan & Feb. not on file; March & April - sick in Hospital in Houston; to Aug. 31, - present. Certificate of Disability shows him discharged Sept. 11/62 at St. Louis, Mo. Regtl. Hospital Records do not cover his service. August 26, 1887 SIR: I have the honor to request that you will furnish from the records of the War Department a full Report as to the service, disability, and hospital treatment of Thomas Floyd, who, it is claimed, enlisted Feby. 1, 1862 and served as private in Co. E, 6 Reg. Mo. Cav. Commanded by Jacob C. Degress and was discharged at St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 1862. While serving in Co. E, 6 Reg Mo. Cav. He was disabled by "mumps resulting in disease of testicles at Houston, MO. About April 10, 1862." Also "chronic diarrhea about same time and place" and was treated in hospitals of which the names, location, and dates of treatment are as follows: "Please search regimental hospital records." DECLARATION FOR PENSION State of Missouri County of Miller ss. On this 11 day of March, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and seven, personally appeared before me, a notary public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Thomas Floyd who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 85 years of age and a resident of Brumley, county of Miller, State of Missouri and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Camp Union, Miller Co. Mo under the name of Thomas Floyd, on the 22d day of June 1861, as a private, in Co. D., Osage ? Reg. Mo. Home Guards in the service of the United States, in the civil war, and was honorably discharged at Jefferson City, Mo, on the 20th day of December, 1861. That he also served in Co. E, 6d Mo. Volunteer Cavalry and discharged sometime in year 1862. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height, five feet 3 1/2 inches; complexion, fair; color of eyes, Blue; color of hair, light; that his occupation was Farmer; that he was born 1823 at Sparklingburg [Spartanburg] Dis. S. Carolina. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: in Washington Co., Arkansas about 4 years the balance of his time in Miller Co., Mo. That he is a pensioner, That he has heretofore applied for pension Certificate No. 609115. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the Untied States under the provisions of the act of February 6, 1907. Hawkins, residing in Brumley, Mo. And E.C. Thompson, residing in Brumley, Mo., persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Thomas Floyd, the claimant, sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of the claimant and their acquaintance with him of 40 years and 15 years, respectively, that his is the identical person he represents himself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Thomas Floyd of Captain J. C. DeGrep? Company, [ 6 ], of the Woods Battl. 6th regiment of United States Cavalry, was enlisted by Col. S.W. Wood, of the Woods Battl. 6th Regiment of Mo Vol. Cavalry at Rolla, Mo on the fourth day of January, 1862 to serve three years; he was born in Spottenbourg Dist. In the State of South Carolina, is thirty eight years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty. Private Floyd has not been able to do duty for three months and is now very low & not able to ride. Station: Helina ?R Capt. Jacob C. DeGrep Date: August 18th 1862 I certify, that I have carefully examined the said Thomas Floyd of Captain J.C. DeGrep's Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of ascites and chronic enlargement of the liver contracted while in the service of the United States - cause unknown James K.
