Jackson, accompanied by Lewis W. Danforth, returned last Thursday from Obion County, Tennessee, having under arrest James Snow, who is charged with killing Dan Lacewell, back of Island No. 6, in this county, about six weeks ago, the particulars of which are about as follows: Dan Lacewell moved from Obion County, Tennessee, some seven or eight weeks ago, and he, in company with Bill Adkins, was riding along the road, when James Snow, and George Lee, came out of the bushes, and Snow shot Lacewell with a double-barrel shot-gun, wounding him in the head, but not fatally. Snow then drew his pistol and dispatched him. The Grand Jury, at a called term of Court, found a bill against Snow and Lee, and the Governor of this State made a requisition upon the Governor of Tennessee for the accused parties. Snow was found at his home about nine miles from Union City. The difficulty all grew out of Lacewell, Adkins, and others, Ku Kluxing two of Snow's tenants on his farm, and whipping them, and Lacewell having shot at Snow at his own (Snow's) house. Lacewell then moved to this county, and Snow, together with Lee, followed him and killed him as above stated. ---Charleston (Missouri) Courier, 16 September 1871 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mo/mississippi/newspapers/danlacew24gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/mofiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
