Layton (22 May 1913 - 19 Apr 1966) Funeral Held For Carl Layton, Former Mayor Carl W. Layton, 52, executive director of the Charleston Hous­ing Authority, died Tuesday evening at Delta Hospital in Sikeston. He entered the hos­pital Monday afternoon for treatment of a heart ailment and died of a heart attack. He was born May 22, 1913, in Cairo and was reared there. He was a resident of Charleston many years and served as coun­cilman and as mayor one term. He was a member of the Metho­dist Church, a charter member of the Lions Club, and was active in all civic affairs. He was also a member of the Elks Club of Cairo. He and his wife, Mrs. Grace McCracken Layton, owned and operated the Charlestonian Restaurant. In addition to his wife he leaves his mother, Mrs. Olga Layton of Cairo; a son, Joe Willis Layton of Charleston; three brothers, Robert and Harry Layton, both of Cairo, and Joseph Layton, of Detroit, Mich.; and two grandsons, Joseph and Jon Layton of Charleston. Funeral services were held today, 3 p.m. at the Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Wilfred House officiating. Burial was in the family lot at the IOOF Cemetery.
