R. McCracken 81, wife of the late Mayor McCracken of this city, died Monday 10:45 a.m. at her home on South Main Street. She had been in failing health the past 11 years and confined to her room the past few months. Mrs. McCracken, the former Miss Sylvia Ann Marsh, was born in Petersburg, Ill., Oct. 31, 1879. She was a resident of this city many years and a member of the Methodist Church. Her husband, a widely known civic leader and business man died May 7, 1948. A son, George McCracken, two sister and two brothers also preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters. Mrs. W. E. Fraizer and Mrs. Carl Layton of this city and Mrs. Ann Pelant of Van Nuys, Calif.; eight grandchildren' great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and two brothers, Charles and Joe Marsh of Peoria, Ill. Funeral services were held Wednesday, 2:30 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral chapel with Rev. J. W. House, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Robert Layton of Cario, Ill., was solist for the service, accompanied by Mrs. Audley Brown, organist. Interment was in the family lot at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mrs. McCracken's grandsons, Joe Willis Layton of Sikeston, Charles Galemore of San Antonio, Tex., Eddie Mehler of Memphis, Tenn., Willis Downs, Dr. Robert Fraizer and Ranny Fraizer of this city served as pall bearers.
