(1934) SOUTH EASH MISSOURI PIONEER DIED TODAY Obituary (unknown publication) 1934 *****************************************************************************                     South East Missouri pioneer Died Today Charles Christopher Krauss ,pioneer farmer of Mississippi CO., Passed away at his home on Mathews, avenue this morning.At 8:30 am following a long illness of a complication of diseases. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock with his pastor Rev.C.F. Transue, in charge. Interment will be made in Oak Grove Cemetery with Dempster service. Charles Christopher Krauss   was born January 8, 1863 in New Orleans, La. . At the age of 8 month, ,he moved with his parents to St. Louis MO. Where the family resided for 12 years . The senior Mr. J. C.   Krauss was a ship carpenter in St louis. J.C. Krauss, traded 3 brick houses and lots in St. Louis for 240 acres of land in Mississippi Co. Mr J. C. Krauss built a flat boat and in 1875 with his wife and 7 children , sailed down the Mississippi river from St Louis, To just south of Birds Point. In addition to his family, John Krauss had on board a horse and wagon, a Swiss milch Goat, a dog, 48 hens and several ducks and geese . The family began farming operations in Mississippi County in 1875 and was among the pioneer settlers there. On March 6 1890, Mr Charles Christopher Krauss married Miss Fanny Overton of Birds point . To this union 7 children were born, 4 of whom survive . They are Mrs Susie Ogborn, of near Anniston , John Krauss, of Near East Prairie, Mrs Myrtle Barber, Chicago Il. Mrs. Helen Garrett, of Near East Prairie Mo. A son Fred Krauss of the 11th Infantry was killed in the World war during the battle of the Argonne. Ivy and Charles Overton Krauss died in early youth . After leaving Mississippi Co ,Mr & Mrs Charles Krauss lived for a while at Mountian Veiw Mo. For the past 6 years this fine old couple have resided in, Sikeston in their home on Matthews Ave. They were active in the affairs of the Church of the Nazarene , Mr Krauss having been one of the trustees. He was a Christian Gentleman and his integrity and loyalty to his friends was beyond question . Mr C. Krauss was a splendid neighbor. He was always ready and willing to help those less fortunate than himself. Besides the widow and children ,one sister Mrs Lena Cusick of Hope Ark. Two brothers, William. Krauss of Bertrand MO, Fred Krauss, of Dallas Texas also survive .
