PENNINGTON served during the Civil War. He enlisted on Aug 1862 for 3 years service. He was a Private in Capt. John G. HUDSON's Company "B" 33rd Regt. Missouri Volunteer Infantry. His Col. was William A. FILO. He died in Helena, Phillips Co., AR while serving in active duty. In 1865 Lucy engaged the services of Att. Wm S. Field of St. Louis, MO to apply for Widow's Pension. MILITARY / PENSION RECORDS: (narrated version of records) 14 Aug 1865 "In the Matter of the Application" form Lucy PENNINGTON, Widow of William PENNINGTON late of Co. "B" 33 MO Vols.; Moniteau Co., MO; Lucy PENNINGTON, age 34, residence of Jamestown, Moniteau Co., MO. William PENNINGTON died of "Disease of the Heart" which was recieved in the military service, she married Wm on 31 Dec 1850; names her children as: William G. born May 1st 1853; Rebecca E., born Feb 4, 1857; Joshua A. PENNINGTON born July 19, 1861, all reside in Moniteau Co., MO. Lucy PENNINGTON made her "X" mark. Attest signatures were: W. C. HALL & Hampton BROWN. Witnesses were: John McDANIEL and Wm S. LONGAN 16 Aug 1865 - Marriage Certified Statement from Moniteau Co., MO; that J. K. WILSON, Justice of the Peace solemized the rites of matrimony between William PENNINGTON & Lucy NELSON on the 31st day of Dec 1850 and was filed on 12 Feb 1851. Signed J. K. WILSON, J. P. (2 copies) 11 Sep 1865 2 pg. Statement of Reuben FRAZIER & Gustav ZUCHHOLDT, citizen's of Moniteau Co., MO; they were personally acquainted w/ Wm PENNINGTON also being members of the same Company & Regt. That they were present at the time of his death and helped bury him. He died on or about the 14th day of Feb 1863, on the same day of his death, he had been walking around and complaining but very little. Previous to his death, he had been considered a healthy man and had made a good soldier. Reuben FRAZIER signed with an "X" and Gustav Zuchholdt signed. Attest: W. C. HALL & John G. ZIEHOLD 22 Nov 1865 "Widow's Pension" form, Lucy S. PENNINGTON, her P.O. address is Jamestown, Moniteau Co., MO; 35 yrs old, Widow of Wm B. PENNINGTON, Wm died 16th Feb 1863 of "Disease of the Heart". Married to Wm on 31 Dec 1850 in Moniteau Co., MO; her maiden name was Lucy S. NELSON; her children's name and DOB's: William Green b: 1 May 1853; Rebecca Ellen b: 24 Feb 1856; Joshua A. PENNINGTON b: 19 July 1861; her attorney is Chas. M. GORDON of California, Moniteau Co., MO. Lucy signed her "X";Witnesses: J. B. PENNINGTON & Martha J. DEARING residents of Jamestown. They have personally known Lucy for 25 yrs. Signed J. B. PENNINGTON & Martha F. DEARING. 22 Nov 1865 - Marriage Certified Statement from Moniteau Co., MO; that J. K. WILSON, Justice of the Peace solemized the rites of matrimony between William PENNINGTON & Lucy NELSON on the 31st day of Dec 1850 and was filed on 12 Feb 1851. Signed J. K. WILSON, J. P. Feb 8, 1866 - Letter from "Adjutant General's Office" Wash. D.C. Pension No. 116,345; William B. PENNINGTON was enrolled on the 13 Aug 1862 in Jefferson City, MO in Co. B, 33 Regt. of MO Vol. for 3 yrs svc. He was mustered in on 29 Aug 1862 in St. Louis, MO. On the muster roll of Co. B for Jan & Feb 1863 he is reported "Died in Quarters at Helena, AR Feb 16, 1863. Cause of death not stated. 15 Nov 1866 "Additional Evidence Officer's Cert." 2 pg. statement; Capt. John G. HUDSON, Moniteau Co., MO, he was Wm PENNINGTON's Capt. in the War stating Wm. died in Helena, AR on or abt the 15th day of Feb 1863 of disease contracted while in the service. Our Regt was ordered from Helena, AR sometime in Jan to Duvall's Bluff and returned to Helena in the first days of Feb 1863 and the sd Wm PENNINGTON was with his Regt. and was exposed by sleeping on deck and contracted cold and soon fell sick after reaching Helena. He fell dead near his tent. He was regarded a sound man, a careful & purdent? faithful soldier. Signed John G. Hudson. 6 Sep 1867 - City of California, Moniteau Co., MO; Wm G. PENNINGTON, aged 14 yrs, and on his motion that Isaac PENNINGTON be apointed their guardian. He gives $1,500 as his security bond. 7 Sep 1869 "Army Pension" form; Issac PENNINGTON resident of near Jamestown, Moniteau Co., MO, age 34 yrs, stating he is the Guardian of Wm's children, Wm G, Rebecca & Joshua PENNINGTON. Their mother Lucy died near Jamestown, Moniteau Co., MO ___ day of July 1869. Children's names & DOB: Wm G. b: 1 May 1853; Rebecca E. b: 24 Feb 1856 & Josh A. 19 Jul 1861; Signed Isaac PENNINGTON; Witnesses: Signed by both Featherstone AKERS a resident of near Jamestown & James M. REDFORD a resident of near Jamestown. 12 Sep 1870 Statement from C. C. PENNINGTON & Jefferson B. PENNINGTON, they were acquainted w/ Wm PENNINGTON, Lucy died on 24 July 1869 and saw her buried, Wm was only married once. C. C. PENNINGTON signed his "X"; Jefferson B. PENNINGTON signed.
