Morgan County Missouri Bios - John Carroll Vanpool I am active in Morgan County, Missouri research as most of my ancestors are from Morgan, Moniteau, and Cole Counties and they started there in the early 1800's. They came from NC, KY, OH, TN and VA. Porter Saunders was my mother's first cousin. He died in WW1 and is in the Morgan County Memorial to lost soldiers from Morgan County. You see most of my family were Union but I also had some Southern Sympathisers as ancestors and they were lost to their families just as my Union ancestors were. The grief was no less great. In fact I think it was greater since there was such a great division in Missouri during the Civil War and the pain for their widows was even greater because of the choices that were made. Regards, Bonnie Morris Conrad Great Granddaughter of John Carroll Vanpool who helped repulse Price's invasion at Jefferson City, MO. Home Guard Great Great Granddaughter of William Dudley Morris Lt. Civil War Battalion A Company 43 Regulars. Union Two Great Uncles from Fairfield County OH who were on Sherman's March to the sea and were at Acworth, GA. Percivcal Brayton Stuter and Wilson Shannon Stuter >From Haw Creek, Morgan County, Missouri I have my Great great Grandfather Valentine Harmon and his sons John Lewis Harmon and Beverly Harmon (Conscript) who were Confederates and never returned. James Beverly Harmon 19 years old died of starvation in Rock Island Illinois Prison for Confederates and is buried there. The father Valentine and son John Lewis lie in unmarked graves that I have not been able to locate. They believed in states rights and never owned a slave. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
