Genl Comdg my immediate and unconditional Resignation as 1st Lt. Compy “E’ Caldwells Reg Mo Inftry. My reasons for this are that my health is now and has for the last three months been in such a condition as to render me entirely unable to discharge the duties of my of office. I have, besides, been so unfortunate as to lose a finger from each of my hands, one of which was shot off at the Battle of Prairie Grove and the effect of the wound has been to render my hand almost entirely useless. Having despaired of being useful in my present position again soon, and being unwilling to encumber the service longer, I therefore trust that my Resignation will be immediately accepted.
