   OBITUARY IN NEWSPAPER 8-18-1921 MISSOURI

Elon Smith was born October 14, 1838, and died at McAlister, New Mexico, August 
10, 1921, Age 82 years 9 months and 26 days.  He was born in Nodaway County, 
Missouri, and spent his entire life here with the exception of the last two 
years, which were spent in New Mexico.  Authorities say that he was the first 
white child born in Nodaway County.

He was married to Jane Holmes August 14, 1869.  To this union four children 
were born.  Mrs. W. Bollin, Mrs. J. M. Witham, Elmer Smith and Alex Smith of 
McAlister, New Mexico.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure, one brother ten 
grandchildren and a number of friends.  He served sometime in the Civil War, 
but could not learn just how long. in Co. K. 43 Regiment of the Missouri 
Infantry.

Funeral Service were held Sunday, August 14, at the Methodist Church in 
Ravenwood, conducted by the Pastor, Rev. John H. Hubbard, and interment was 
made in the Oak Law Cemetery.
