OBITUARY IN NEWSPAPER 10-18-1921 Probably the New Mexico Newspaper. Jane Holmes was born in Illinois, November 14, 1849, and died at McAlister, New Mexico October 4, 1921, age 71 years, 10 months and 20 days. While yet a young girl she, with her parents, moved to Nodaway County, Missouri, where her entire life was spent with the exception of the last two years which she lived in New Mexico. In 1869, she was married to Elon Smith, and to this union four children were born, Alex Smith of New Mexico, Elmer Smith, Mrs. W. A.Bollin and Mrs. J. M. Witham, all or near Ravenwood. Besides these she leaves to mourn her death one sister and three brothers. She was a loving Wife and devoted Mother, and one of the outstanding virtues of her life was unselfishness, always thinking for and doing for others. "Dearest Mother, thy gentle voice in hushed. Thy warm, true heart is still, and on thy pale and peaceful face is resting a death's cold chill. Thy hands are clasped upon thy breast. We have kissed thy marble brow: and in our aching hearts we know, we have no Mother now". Card of Thanks, We wish to thank our friends for the kind words, spoken during her death of our beloved Mother (Mrs. W. A. Bollin, Mrs. J. M. Witham, Elmer Smith, Alex Smith).
