Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie Holmes Smith, who died January 5, at 12:10 P.M. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edwin Wright, were held Saturday, January 9th, at 2 o'clock from the Byrd Funeral Chapel, Eldorado, Kansas, and were conducted by Rev. Robert Gray of the First Baptist Church. Interment was made in Bell Vista Cemetery by the side of her husband, one daughter and one son. Mrs. Smith was born at Paris, ILL., May 1, 1854 and was married to Elon Smith of Ravenwood, MO in 1870. To this union were born 10 children, three of these preceding their mother in death. In 1901 Mrs. Smith with her husband moved to Kansas where she resided until moving to Kingsville, Texas, in 1912. Mr. Smith having purchased the Kirkwood farm, one mile East of Kingsville where they lived until the death of Mr. Smith January 2, 1931, at which time she moved in the home of her daughter in Robstown. In respect to her memory, favorite hymns were sung including "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", "Nearer My God To Thee", "Rock Of Ages", a solo sung by Miss Elsie Dunn, accompanied by Miss Janie Lou Mawson. Survivors include seven children, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Her children are Mrs. Della Fryar, Cheyanne, WY, Mrs. R. H. Dirk, Oakland, CA., H. J. Smith, Long Beach, CA., Joseph W. Smith, Portland, OR., H. P. Smith, Albuquerque, NM., Dorse Smith, Bishop and Edwin Wright, Robstown. Active pallbearers included J. J. Smith and J. P. Hawk, Ravenwood, MO. and Oliver B. and Harold Curry, Wichita, Kansas. Robstown (Texas) Record Newspaper, January 21, 1943. The subject of the above obituary was the Grandmother of J. P.
