South Cemetery, Osage County, Missouri "South Cemetery" near St Aubert ,Osage Co. Missouri Recorded Sept 15 1985 by Ron Houghtelin of Owatonna, Mn 55060 Named after the "James South" family buried here This cemetery is located in Benton Twp, Osage County Mo in the S/E Corner of section 24 about a mile overlooking the Missouri river bottoms. From St Aubert, just west a mile, off from Highway 100, angle S/W on the twp road and as you turn directly south the cemetery is on the hill on you right side. The entrance is a sharp turn to your right into a field and the you can drive or walk the 1/4 mile back along the dirt drive N/W up the hill to the fenced cemetery and gate I have recorded the cemetery in sections or blocks as rows or tiers are not consistent or even. I started in the S/E corner and worked to the N/E corner along the east side of the cemetery. Then I worked back on the west side and picked up the center and the south part of the cemetery. The S/W corner didn't seem to have any burials in that area. I recorded the markers as I read them and listed them in the order as I described. Abbreviations used in this report osp=on same burial site oss=on the same stone marker umgs=unmarked grave sites w/o=wife of etc. In the S/E corner below the gate Penning Dollie (mother) 1889-1930 ** 4 umgs or more in the S/E corner near the gate Huckstep George F Sept 27 1855 Apr 19 1940 Hulda H Feb 10 1857 Mar 19 1942 osp Mitchem Archie Raymond Pvt US Army WW 2 Feb 10 1919 Oct 11 1977 Laura M Nov 23 1917 Feb 25 1977 osp Mark R Jan 19 1970 Dec 11 1983 (Our Darling Son)osp 1 McGeery Elizabeth May 18 1861 Nov 16 1946 William Mar 4 1862 Apr 27 1941 osp Claire July 6 1891 Jan 30 1920 osp Bertha 1872-1919 osp **(2) field stones marking graves osp **(2) umgs (unknown) no field stones osp Mitchum Park A 1879-1954 Elsie J 1881-1959 **(4) unknown grave sites marked with reaths osp **(15)field stone marking graves on Mitchum/Gress plot Gress Mich'l Sergt Co E 26 Mo Inf Louis Gress b Oct 24 1855 d Mar 27 1931 osp Strickland Charles E May 16 1861 May 4 1944 Ottillie Jan 26 1870 May 9 1931 Langendoerfer Carrie H Aug 11 1872 June 16 1960 Wiley J Mar 29 1869 Feb 5 1923 osp Oran E Oct 14 1910 July 10 1983 osp **(6)graves marked with field stones next to Langendoefer **(2) umgs next to Langendoerfer sites osp Brock Clara w/o WE (Edward)Nee Penning Mar 31 1883 Aug 4 1918 Blumer Miton Osage Co Ho G **(2)umgs (at least 2 possibly others Sting Paul M July 28 1907 Aug 8 1910 John Sergt Co H 10 Mo Cav Maria M w/o John Oct 30 1831 Mar 21 1904 osp F W Apr 20 1850 June 22 1880 ?? osp Bath (Beth) Nov 5 1861 July 13 1862 osp John Oct 14 1855 Feb 3 1858 osp **(1) field stone marking grave (unknown) osp Penning A S Co L 10th Mo Cav **(3) field stones marking graves near Penning site osp **(1) field stone marking grave and possibly others osp 2 N/W or Western portion of the "South Cemetery "Penning Theodore A Aug 17 1866 May 7 1893 Wm Co L 10th Mo Cav osp **(4)umgs osp Penning Vonbehren Venetie d/o Fred & Addie b June 11 1890 d June 16 1894 Hulda d/o Fred & Addie b Aug 23 1893 d Feb 28 1894 osp **(2) field stones marking graves osp Pasquier Hulda M Dec 2 1846 Jan 18 1894 Tout Ida M 1870-1922 Walker J L May 21 1874 Oct 1 1939 **(2) field stones marking graves near Walker site Holstein Gustav A Capt J N Dennis Co May 19 1849 Feb 8 1873 McLaughlin Annie (Pelina South) Mar 2 1850 Mar 29 1922 osp Holstein w/o Lt John McLaughlin buried in Linn Cemetery with his first wife Anne Glover.
