Alcorn (Allcorn) families were among the first settlers. Probably the first person buried in this site was David Russell in 1864. One of his descendants, the late Dorothy Luna, in researching family history found an account of his being shot by a band of Confederates while he was working in his field on the Bryant while home on a visit. He had been a member of Company E, Phelps Regiment, Missouri Infantry. The marker on his grave was placed there many years later. There are many unknown burials without even fieldstone markers. In the early 1960’s Landy Alcorn enclosed the grounds with a wire fence, and around this time a long marker was placed at the heard of several Alcorn graves. Alcorn, one concrete slab approximately four feet by eight inches, suggesting three to four graves.
