This stone marks the grave of A. J. (Jack) Satterfield who was found shot to death on Feb. 15, 1932. The murderer was never found. The Ozark County Times reported that Satterfield was 59 years old, a prosperous bachelor who lived alone on his farm near Faye and was reputed to have kept large sums of money hidden about his home. The house was ransacked and there was evidence of a scuffle. He was killed with his own rifle. A revolver found in the yard near a fence was thought to have been dropped by the murderer as he fled. The land on which the cemetery lies was deeded in three half-acre sections. The first two sections were deeded in 1897 for a cemetery and a school by I. W. (Babe) and Margaret Hambelton and J. W. (Wess) Swafford. The third half acre was deeded for cemetery purposes in 1905 by Roy and Louise Landers. Though the source of the name Faye is not known, it was given to a post office established in the area in 1892 by Arley M. Sweeton. He was succeeded by Cleo Conklin and William R. Thurm before the office was closed out to Mammoth in 1907. The schoolhouse, which stood at the edge of the cemetery, served the community from the late 1800's until 1959 when the school district was consolidated with Gainesville. Later the building was occasionally used for funerals until it was destroyed by fire of unknown origin in the early 1970's. There is no committee to care for the cemetery which is kept mowed and in fine condition by persons who have family members buried there. There are 71 graves simply marked by stones from the area and the names of the persons buried in these graves are not recorded. There also are probably other unknown burials in the cemetery.
