(New) Friend Cemetery T22, R15, S9 Highway 160 west to 865, north one mile New Friend Cemetery is the name given the burial place to which mix southeastern Ozark County cemeteries were relocated in December, 1950, by the U. S. Corps of Engineers to save them fron inundation by water to be impounded by Bull Shoals Dam. The cemeteries removed to the New Friend location were Duggins (11 graves), Old Friend (163 graves), Fugate (one grave), Old Haskins (57 graves) Holdt (23 graves), and Mefford (17 graves). Three of the remains from the Old Friend were reclaimed by relatives; all other remains, from a total of 272 graves, were relocated to ground that had been seeded, fenced and enclosed with a gate. The New Friend Cemetery (1.05 acres) was secured in 1950 through a deed granted by J. J. and Louella Friend to Walter W. Hers and George Stafford, trustees for the incorporated new cemetery.
