Several years ago the grounds were cleared and fenced by family members, and at that time, inscribed headstones were placed to mark the graves of the Daniel and Zady Hambelton family. One other grave, that of John Souder, is also marked. The burial ground had been established before John W. Hambelton (1859- 1938) is said to have donated land for a public cemetery in the 1880's. A bachelor, Hambelton welcomed orphans into his home, and he was kind and generous to renters, Rosie Miller recalled. The cemetery was always open to anyone who wanted to bury a loved one there, she said. Hambelton himself is buried in Sallee Cemetery. Hugo and Lura Faye Hambelton now own the land on which the cemetery lies.
