Gen. & Historical Society ==================================================================== Wood Burial Ground T23, R11, S7 Route H to 366, then right on 365 ½ mile. This family burial ground lies on a hayfield on the Judson and Lonnie Shipley farm. The land was homesteaded by William and Mary Coyle Wood after the Civil War. Their land grant was dated 1890. Their grandson, William Wood of Gainesville, said his grandfather fought at Wilson's Creek and Pea Ridge with the First Missouri Cavalry. He said William and Mary Wood were his maternal grandparents and that his paternal were also named Wood. They were Henry and Nancy Sanders Wood and settled in the Gainesville area in the mid-1850's.
