Bixler, Rolla, Mo., 83, died in Rolla Hospital at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. She was born Lillian Garmire, Jan. 20, 1878, in LaGrange County. Many years ago she lived in Anderson, where her husband, William A. Bixler, was a painter with Anderson Herald, and later with the Gospel Trumpet Company. He afterward became circulation manager for the Gospel Trumpet. He was a poet and artist, noted for his paintings of James Whitcomb Riley's "Old Swimmin' Hole" and other canvases and for church paintings. Known as the "Hoosier Artist," he gave a number of chalk talks. Later, Mrs. Bixler accompanied him to California, where he was with the Gospel Trumpet branch in that state. Mrs. Bixler was prominent in Park Place Church of God, where she and her husband often sang. Survivors include: her husband, five daughters, Mrs. Arlo M. Line of Anderson, Mrs. Frank Towers of Franklin, Pa, Mrs. Ralph Collins of Culver City, Calif., Mrs. Lola Calhoun of Pomona, Calif., and Mrs. Sallie Marsh of Rolla: a son, The Rev. Leon R. Bixler of the Church of God, Rolla; two brothers, Elva and Bob Garmire of California; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Reed and Mrs. Blanche Starks in California; many grandchildren, including in Anderson, Betty (Mrs. Harold P.) Plummer and Caryl (Mrs. Phillips) Busby, and Bixler Line; a sister-in-law in Anderson, Mrs. Isabelle E. Patterson; nephews and nieces. The body was taken to the Null and Son Funeral Home, Rolla. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of God, Rolla.
