The Dixon Pilot, October 26, 1995 (pg 7), Dixon, MO Elmer Joseph Chambers of Vienna was born on June 15, 1918 near Spring Creek in Maries County a son of George Leferage and Ida Ann Hutson Chambers and departed this life at 9:15 pm on Sunday evening, October 15, 1995, in St. Mary's Health Care Center, Jefferson City, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Chambers had attained the age of 77 years and four months. Mr. Chambers was united in marriage on February 23, 1941, at St James, to the former Miss Mary Louis Duffin and to this union two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his father on December 18, 1953, his mother on August 22, 1982 , and one brother, Earl Chambers on January 24, 1992. Elmer graduated from Rolla High School in 1936. He was a US Army Veteran, serving three yrs during world war II, including one year in the Philipines. He returned to Vienna in 1947. Upon returning, he and his wife owned and operated the Chambers Store in Vienna for 35 years until retirement in 1978. He also served on the Vienna City Council for 20 years. the Maries R-I School Board for 19 years; was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Mrs. Louise Chambers of the home in Vienna; two daughters and son-in-law; Linda and Bob Schrader, Warrensburg; and Peggy and Bill Lindsey, Springfield; two brothers; Edgar Chambers, Vienna and Ewell Chambers, Osage Beach; two sisters, Bernice Peukert, St Louis, and Deloris Nail, Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Brian Lindsey and Eric Lindsey, two granddaughters, Kellie Schrader and Kim Schrader and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 11 am on Wednesday morning October 18, 1995 in the Vienna United Methodist Church...Interment was in the Vienna Public Cemetery under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers: Max John, Bill Parker, Lloyd Murphy, Richard James, Jr, Paul James and Tom Eads.
