Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery in rural Angelina County, Texas. Mr. Martin was born December 4, 1952 in Rolla, Missouri to the late Luther Washburn and Jeanne Frances (Reynolds) Martin, and died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Lufkin, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the local hospital. Kurt attended the Rolla Public Schools, graduating in 1971. He attended Florida College in Temple Terrace Florida, where he met Brenda Jean Murray. They married June 8, 1973 in Lufkin, Texas, Brenda's home town. They divorced August 31st, 2000. Kurt's career focused on business. He worked for Lufkin Industries, in Lufkin, Texas, and was a store manager for Lowe's Homecenters Inc. in Texas, Louisiana, and Oregon. From an early age Kurt began preaching and leading worship services, as did his father, Luther Martin. No matter what earthly responsibilities he held, his first love was serving the Lord and spreading the gospel. He spent his last years residing in Palestine, Texas where he was the minister for the Eastside Church of Christ. He was a treasured father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had a quick wit, a keen sense of humor and was blessed with the ability to lighten the mood and bring a smile at the most opportune times. When his three children were in school he served on the Hudson ISD school board and was an active parent and coach for his children's many activities. In the last seven years as a grandfather he continued that same support with his five grandsons. Kurt was a man of many talents. His most recent hobby included being the sound man for the Cowboy B music show in Lufkin, Texas. He considered it his "hunting, fishing, and golf" replacement. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Todd Brandon and Brooke(Barge) Martin of Huntington, TX and Grant Murray and Amanda (English) Martin of Nacogdoches,TX; daughter and son-in-law, Amber Elizabeth and Barett Duren of Huntington, TX; grandchildren, Peyton Brent Martin, Caleb Todd Martin, Barett Karter Duren, Owen Riley Duren and Sawyer Lee Duren; brother and sister- in-law, Lynn Luther and Marione (Derrickson) Martin of Alva, Oklahoma; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Jeanne and Harlan Doering of McPherson, Kansas, Tara Lee Calhoun of Norman, Oklahoma and Marta Ann and Bob Ward of Cypress,TX; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Randy Murray, Mack Duncan, Jason King, Steve Bradley, Charles Lopez, Tim Beamon, Monte Ramsey and Steve Walsh. Honorary pallbearers will be the brethren at Eastside Church of Christ in Palestine, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, P.O. Box 78960, Phoenix, Arizona 85062. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Carroway Funeral Home, in Lufkin, Texas.
