G. Brown, of Capt. Morin's company of mounted volunteers, to his father, Judge Roland Brown, of this county. Dated July 8th, 1847. Grazing pary eighteen miles east of Taos. About thirty men grazing horses. Attacked morning of 6th, about an hour before daylight, by two or three hundred Indians. The Indians killed five and wounded nine others. Killed: Lieut. Larkin, John A. Wright, John R. Owen, George Kay, and William S. Mason. Wounded: Dr. Holland (shot below elbow), Hayden Lewis (shot above elbow), A. G. Wilkinson (shot below knee), William Story (wounded below elbow), Jno. White (shot through hand), four others, not named. [Platte Argus. Additional Comments: The Hannibal Journal was published at Hannibal, Marion Co., MO. However, the article was taken from the Platte Argus. By checking 1850 census, I determined that the Brown men listed in article lived in Platte Co., MO.
