Mr. Harry Lee Simmers, 50, a flagman, was fatally injured when he was struck by an outside rear view mirror on a truck. A spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Mr. Simmers was standing in the right lane of I29 when a flatbed truck passed the flagman, striking him. Simmers was working at a site abut two miles north of Platte City. Mr. Simmers was married and he and his wife had built a new home on north Welt Street. He was a fine neighbor and friend. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ganelle Simmers of the home; a step daughter, Mrs. Janie Vest, Platte City; two step sons, Ronald Darby of Weston and Gerald Darby of Kansas City. He also leaves seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Vaughn Chapel with Lt. Col. Garth Geddes officiating. Mrs. Charles Corliss Mitchell was at the organ and accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. John Thornock, who sang. Pallbearers were Alfred, Raymond, Kennth, Jimmy, Gary, David, James and Corley Anderson.
