Polk County, Missouri Biographies - Harry L. CARY History Of Hickory, Polk, Cedar, Dade And Barton Counties, Missouri 1889, published by Goodspeed, pg. 632 Polk County Biography Section Harry L. Cary, son of William and Florinda P. (Rogers) Carl, was born in Crawford County, Penn., October 3, 1856, and when eleven years of age came to this county with his parents. His education was received in the Bolivar public schools. He was a salesman in his father's store for about twelve years, becoming a partner in 1878, in the business, under the firm name of William Cary & son, dealers in general hardware. He continued in the firm until 1889, when he purchased his father's interest and became sole proprietor. In 1878 he married Alice C. Mitchell, daughter of Columbus S. Mitchell; they have had four children, two sons and two daughters. Both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Church. In 1882 he was appointed county treasurer, and in 1884 was elected.
