Pulaski County, Missouri Biographical Sketch - John Lane Including related census abstractions. 1850 census, Hamilton county, Twigg twnshp John Lane, 37, b. in Ohio (my 3Gr Grandparents) Temperance A., 36, b. in TN Charles, 16, b. in IL James, 12, b. in IL (my great great grandpa) Mary, 5, b. in IL Nancy A., 3, b. in IL 1860 Hamilton county, IL, Twigg twnshp John, 47 Temperance A., 46 Mary J. Lane, 15 Nancy A., 13 William C., 9, b. in IL Rebecca, 6, b. in IL Martha E. Pulliam, 2, b. in IL --- I assume her parents must have died. Next door to John and Temperance is their son, James 21 and his wife, Oma Kathryn (Catherine Souther) 17and their 6 month old daughter, Temperance A.. Next to them is Charles 26 and Lucinda 26 Lane with a Mary E. Southen (Souther) as a domestic. I have found Lucinda Lane w/o Charles d. 1889 and buried at Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery in So. Twigg twnshp. The Hamilton County Marriage Book lists: James Lane (son of John Lane) and Oma Catharine (daughter of Jerome B. Souther) married Jan. 5, 1858 by A. Coffey, M.G. Hamilton County, IL. I have not found James and Oma for an 1870 census as of yet. According to our family they lived in Cairo, IL but I haven't confirmed that. On their 1880 census in Pulaski County, MO, Piney twnshp I find the following info: James, 42, b. IL Oma C., 38, b. TN Sarah, 16, b. IL John, 14, b. IL Mary J.(Jane--my great grandmother), 12, b. IL James L., 10, b. IL Jeremiah, 8, IL Walker B., 4, b. MO Robert L., 4, b. MO Estella M. 1, b. MO Their oldest son, Arch, is found on the 1880 census in Phelps County, MO, Cullen twnsp as a laborer for a William L. Lane. According to our family history there was also a daughter named Cora--so she must have been born after the 1880 census. Also, according to family history James and Oma both died in 1883 in Waynesville, MO. Our family history has no mention of the daughter Temperance of the 1860 census--so I assume she died at an early age as my Great GM never mentioned her. The twin boys were legally adopted by Jacob Henry Gerron Logan (he is found living near Oma and James in the 1880 census). I've found that Minnie (Estella) married John Lewis Blackwell in 1899 in Arlington, MO. Arch married Sarah Heflin in 1883 in Phelps county, MO. Mary Jane Lane married Isaac Choate in May of 1886 in MO. They moved from MO to Brasfield, AR. Isaac ran a logging operation on a very small scale. He died May 13, 1910 and he is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in DeValls Bluff, AR. Mary Jane died Nov. 7, 1929, and is buried beside her son-in-law and daughter at the Oakland Cemetery in DVB as well. As of this date I have found nothing concerning Sarah, John, or Jeremiah. What I have found for Walker Burt is that he was born Aug. 26, 1876 and died April 9, 1908 and is buried at Hudgens Cemetery in Phelps County, MO. I have found info for a James Louis Lane and also for a Robert L. Lane but as yet have not confirmed that they are mine. I hope that this will be of help to someone else in the future. Should anyone have more info to add with what I have I'd so appreciate the input.
