Murder of Charles B. Rouse (aka Charles A.)

A murder was perpetrated at New Long, Ralls County, Missouri, about 9 o’clock on 
Sunday morning, the 6th inst (6 Jan 1830, was not a Sunday.  6 Dec 1829 was a 
Sunday, however) under circumstances evincing a degree of cold-blooded 
depravity, seldom paralleled in the history of crimes.  Charles b. Rouse, Esq. 
attorney at law, was shot with a rifle, while standing on the porch of Mr. Green 
V. Caldwell, Inn Keeper, from a concealment, between 70-80 yards distant.  The 
ball passed quite through his body, and severely wounded a young man named 
Saunders, standing behind him.—Mr. Rouse expired immediately.

A man who has called himself by different names, and whose real name is said to 
be Samuel Hurls or Earls, is committed to prison as principal, and Richard 
Matson, Alexander Boarman, and Thomas Purdom, as accessories,--to abide their 
trials for this most foul and atrocious deed—lb.

I did find a memorial on findagrave 
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/63201465/charles-a-rouse although in the 
articles his name is Charles B. Rouse.  It does not contain a headstone but the 
date of death is 6 Dec 1829, also the death location is New London, Ralls 
County, Missouri.  The article is in the public domain, it happened 195 years 
ago.  i did not correct any grammar, I typed exactly as it was written.
