Monroe City News   2 August 1877
Mr. John Brown, living  near  Big  Creek,  in  Ralls  county,  died  very
suddenly one day last week. He had been suffering  with  the  chills  for
some time, and was considerably weakened thereby, although  not  confined
to his bed. On the day of his death he went to work  in  the  field,  and
becoming overheated, his system was not strong enough to  enable  him  to
recover, and he died in a few hours after  quitting  work.  He  leaves  a
young wife and  babe,  together  with  a  large  number  of  friends  and
relations, to mourn his sudden taking off.
