Ray County, Missouri Biographies - James Love Farris (1833-1905) Source: Ancestry.com James Love Farris (Sr.) was born May 7, 1833 in Williamsburg, Kentucky. When he was two years old his parents moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee. In 1856 he moved to Ray County, Missouri. James was married in 1859 to Miss Amanda Tisdale, of Ray County, and two sons were born to them, Don W., and James L. Jr. In the spring of 1861 James joined the Confederate army, entering service in the Missouri state guard, under General Sterling Price. He subsequently enlisted in the regular Confederate army, and for his devotion, gallantry and soldierly bearing was promoted to a captaincy of artillery, and commanded the second battery organized in Missouri for the Confederate service.
