Ray County, Missouri Biographies - Moses Ritter (b. 1818) Source: History of Ray County, Missouri 1881; p.704-705 MOSES RITTER Moses. Ritter. Son of William and Margaret Ritter, was born in Claiborne county, Tennessee, on the 10th of October, 1818. He remained at home with his parents in his native county until he was twenty-four years of age, and then commenced farming on his own account. He came to Ray county, Missouri, in 1843 and located upon his present place, section fifteen, township fifty-four, range twenty-seven. He was married first in 1840 to Rhoda Carr. They had one child, Mary Ann, born in May, 1843, and now Mrs. Wild. Mrs. Ritter died in 1843, and Mr. Ritter was married the second time in 1845, to Miss Catherine Hammitt. She died the same year, and he was again married August 12, 1842 (sic should be 1852), to Miss Martha A. E. Fowler. The issue of this union was five children: Plina F., born August 12, 1853; James P., born March 6, 1855; Martha E., born January 14, 1857; Moses A, born June 4, 1859; William F., born June 21, 1868. The third Mrs. Ritter is a native of Bedford county, Tennessee. Her parents were Samuel and Sarah Fowler. She was born January 24, 1833, and came with her parents to this county at the age of twenty-seven years. Mr. Ritter owns a fine farm of 358 acres, 150 acres in a high state of cultivation. This place is well improved and watered.
