Ray County, Missouri - Lawson Women Killed in Head-on Motor Car Crash Richmond Missourian, 1942 Two Lawson Woman Killed in Head-on Motor Car Crash A head-on collision of two motor cars on highway No. 69 on Thursday afternoon killed Mrs. Lillian Goodyear, 60-year-old city collector of Lawson and manager of Cook’s Variety stone there, and Mrs. Mary Green, wife of James “Pearlie” Green and an operator at the Lawson telephone exchange. The cars crashed at 4:30 o’clock at a point on the highway two miles northwest of Liberty. Mrs. Goodyear and Mrs. Green were killed instantly. Bert Kinevan, of near Gallatin, driver of the other car, died on reaching Research hospital at Kansas City. Stephen Nolker, bookkepper at the Lawson bank, driving the V-8 coach, was not seriously injured. In his car were Mrs. Goodyear and Mrs. Green. Miss Rosella Goodman, a telephone operator at Lawson, the fourth person in the Nolker car, suffered a back injury, concussion, injured pelvis, hip and forearm, face and knee lacerations. She was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital at Kansas City, Nolker was taken to Research hospital. Kinevan’s car was traveling at high speed, having passed three cars in reckless driving shortly before the collision. His car was a gray 1938 Plymouth coach. Highway patrolman Hugh Wallace said that the accident was due to "high-speed driving."
