Ray County, Missouri - South Point Cemetery Will Observe ’42 Decoration Day 1942 South Point Cemetery Will Observe ’42 Decoration Day On Tuesday morning, The Missourian received the timely announcement of the South Point Cemetery Association, located between Camden and Orrick. Mrs. Emery Scott is secretary, and Elmer A. Paulson is the publicity committeeman. The Richmond Missourian commends the unusual spirit of teamwork among the people of Orrick community, in organizing on a business basis the century-old South Point Cemetery, issuing bonds and hiring a sexton. The formal announcement of the Decoration Day exercises, to be held on day after tomorrow, follows: The South Point Cemetery Association, northeast of Orrick, will arrange a memorial service for next Saturday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m., at the cemetery. The transformation of the cemetery from a wilderness to a beautiful garden is fast developing at this burial place. In another year, when the grass has become more abundant, the cemetery will be kept in a beautiful condition. The weeds have been destroyed and will be kept out and off the cemetery. The additional 8 acres of added ground makes this cemetery one of the largest North Missouri rural cemeteries. It is well kept, and nothing left undone to make it a place of beauty. With the service of a sexton, it is well guarded and kept. The sinking funds are coming in fast from the bonds sold to lot owners. In another five years, we expect a sinking fund of at least five thousand dollars or more. These principal funds cannot be used. The income from the funds can and will maintain the cemetery, in a few years. People from all parts will want to visit this old over 100-year cemetery, where their loved ones are peacefully resting. Those wishing lunch and drinking water, will find plentiful conveniences to make the visit a comfortable, well spent one. The program will be at 2 o’clock, Saturday, May 30th. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
