Ray County, Missouri Military Records - Letter of Condolence for Skiles Richmond Missourian 2 MAR 1942 Secretary of Navy Knox Writes Letter Of Condolence Here Charley J. Skiles, sr., of northwest Richmond has received a letter of condolence from Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox at Washington, D.C., in regard to the death of his two sons in the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7. The letter from Secretary Knox is as follows: My dear Mr. Skiles: I desire to offer to you my personal condolence in the tragic deaths of your sons, Eugene Skiles and Charley Skiles, jr., seamen second class, United States Navy, which occurred at the time of the attack by the Japanese on December 7. It is hoped that you may find comfort in the thought that they made the supreme sacrifice upholding the highest traditions of the Navy, in the defense of their country.
