Chicago Tribune (IL) - August 14, 1959 TRAINS CRASH, ENGINEER DIES, FIREMEN HURT Richmond, Mo., Aug. 13 (AP) -- An engineer was killed and a fireman injured Thursday in a collision and pileup of a Santa Fe mail train and a work train. The mail train was en route from Chicago to Los Angeles. The accident took place at a switch near Hardin, 8 miles east of here. Both engines caught fire and the flames spread to baggage cars of the mail train. Ray Staubus, Marceline, Mo., the engineer on mail train No. 7, was thrown out and injured fatally. The fireman, Clyde Koch, 42, Brookfield, Mo., suffered burns on the hands and feet and was hospitalized here.
