Ray County, Missouri - Ray County Conservator transcription: Robert Kirkpatrick After Twenty-four Years. On Tuesday Dr. Shotwell removed from the left eye of Robert Kirkpatrick a small piece of steel which had lodged there twenty-four years ago. One day in 1869, at his old home in Virginia, Mr. Kirkpatrick was cutting the points from some horse shoe nails, using a broken scythe as a cutter, when a piece of the blade, about the eighth of an inch in length, was knocked off and found lodgment in his eye. It gave him no pain and no attention was paid to it until Tuesday, when Dr. Shotwell was examining his eyes with a view to fitting him with spectacles. It was at once removed and found to be only slightly rusted after its burial of twenty-four years. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
