Ray County, Missouri - Ray County Conservator transcription: Stratton, Elizabeth Mrs. Elizabeth Stratton. At the Age of 82 Years has 197 Descendants. Some years ago we had occasion to refer through the columns of the Conservator to Mrs. Stratton and her large number of descendants. Since that time she has increased in years and her descendants have greatly multiplied. Mrs. Stratton was born in Faquier county, Virginia, Nov. 22d 1809, and afterwards moved to Kentucky with her parents, where she was married to Mr. Mayden and of their union two children were born. Her first husband died and she was afterwards married to Daniel Stratton and moved to Ray county, settling on the Wakenda. Of her second marriage eleven children were born. Below we give the names of her children who are married and the number of children and grandchildren of each. James and Mary Leakey, 10 children, 32 grandchildren. Owen and Sarah Edwards, 11 children, 2 grandchildren. Wm. and Rhoda Mayden, 10 children, 16 grandchildren. Niles and Missouri Esrey, 9 children, 2 grandchildren. It was reported that the one hundredth grandchild was to have a premium of $100, and Dr. W.F. Yates was the originator of the scheme to raise the money, but six years have elapsed since the one hundredth grandchild made its appearance, yet the $100 has not been paid, and our correspondent suggests that it should be raised soon or there would be $200 due. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
