Ray County, Missouri - Richmond Democrat transcription: July 5, 1883 Richmond Democrat 5 JUL 1883 Mr. H.H. Hays a prominent Hardin merchant, dropped in last Tuesday to order some job work. He says the outlook in now cheerful down in his section. He saw much good corn on his way up to Richmond and it is being rapidly worked out and put in good shape. He says the wheat is splendid. He passed some fields he is satisfied will make 30 bushels to the acre, and of other small grain and meadows he brings equally as good a report.
