Ray County, Missouri - Richmond Democrat transcription: September 6, 1883 Richmond Democrat 6 SEPT 1883 Page 3 Cany Shreve happened to a very serious and perhaps fatal accident at Orrick, on Sunday morning last. In attempting to get on, or off the cars, we did not learn which, he missed his footing and fell so that one of his feet was crushed to a jelly. The leg was amputated between the ankle and knee, but at last accounts his recovery was a matter of great doubt. Persons cannot be too careful in attempting to get off and on moving trains. Every day we read of accidents caused by carelessness in this respect. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
