Ray County, Missouri - Richmond Democrat transcription: September 27, 1883 Richmond Democrat 27 SEPT 1883 Camden Jottings. Mr. Editor:-We are all alive up here on the "Old Muddy", as yet. But there has been some few things happened since we last reported. Mr. Ezra Kelly is now fitting up a Daisy" little room which he proposes to fill with Dry Goods and Groceries to be sold as cheap as the cheapest. Mr. Brashear is opening up a provision ship, at his old stand, where the hungry can find relief. Mr. James Suits, a young man of this place, while working in No. 5, coal mine, some days since, was struck by falling slate and badly hurt, having one gash cut about four inches in length across the forehead, and another of about three inches across the back of his head. Owing to good nursing and the skillful workings of Dr. Johnson, of this place he is now up on his pins allright, except a slightly sore head. Mr. Walter Akers, of East Camden, accompanied his "star", Miss Zella Shepherd, who has been visiting relations, at this place, to her home in Independence on Saturday last, and Madame Rumor says he has important business to transact, while there, "Such is life." Misses Lelia King and Mary Parker, two of Camden's fairest ones returned a few days since from a protract visit to friends and relatives in Ohio. Miss Parker leaves today for Bates City, where she will teach this winter. May success crown her efforts. We are having a considerable Temperance movement among the young folks of this place now. May the good work continue as begun. The Farmers around here are all busy at present threshing grain, which prevents many from attending the fair at Kansas City. We will close by saying more anon.
