Ray County, Missouri - Richmond Missourian transcription: February 3, 1916 - Christine Maddux Richmond Missourian Richmond, Ray County, Missouri 3 FEB 1916 Front Page Received Valuable Heirloom. Miss Christine Maddux was the recipient of an heirloom, Friday, which had been in the family for sixty-five years. Mr. W.H. (Billie) Hill, a grand uncle of Miss Maddux gave her a coverlid for her birthday, which Mr. Hill’s mother had made on her loom about sixty-five years ago. Mrs. Hill raised the sheep, sheared the wool and spun the cloth herself. The coverlid is a pretty piece of handiwork with dark blue coloring on one side and white and blue mixture on the other side. Miss Maddux was a namesake of her great grand mother who wised this heirloom handed down to her namesake. Mr. Billie Hill, who makes his home in the Rayville country, has taken this coverlid with him on five trips to San Francisco and took special care of it. At the state fair in 1863, the coverlid took first prize. Miss Maddux has ample reason to be proud of this gift. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
