Bowman is ill with apoplexy and little hope is entertained for his recovery. --- Hardin, Missouri 1920 Death of a Good Man. Jacob F. Bowman, one of the well known and highly respected citizens of Ray county, died at his home eight miles north of Hardin, Monday afternoon, April 12th, following an illness of several months from a complication of diseases, which resulted in a stroke of paralysis on Friday of last week. Deceased was a native of Virginia, and was born in Rockingham county, March 18th, 1852, therefore he had just passed his 68th year. He was a son of the late David B. and Annie Bowman pioneer settlers of this county who moved here in March 1857. He was a member of a family of 12 children, three of whom have preceeded him in death. The surviving members of his family are: Mrs. D.H. Stratton of Montana, Mrs. Eliza Van Trump, Mrs. Oscar Denny of Iantha, Mo., Mrs. Jacob Myers and Mrs. Harvey Myers, of Carroll county, Mrs. John Rhodes, Mrs. John R. Bowman and David and Douglas Bowman. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Templeton, of Ralls county on October 16, 1890. They have been the parents of six children; two sons and four daughters, Viz. George W., Roy E., Mary Ann, Grace D., Laura B. and Ida F. Bowman, and they with the wife and mother are left to mourn his departure. Mr. Bowman was a member of the Church of Brethren. His every day life was an exemplification of the faith and practice of his religious belief. His straightforwardness with his neighbors and friends had won the admiration of all who knew him, and this with his careful business like methods allowed him the privilege of accumulating his share of lifes necessities for himself and family. His funeral was held from Wakenda church Wednesday morning at 11:00 o’clock, conducted by Elder E.G. Rodabaugh, after which his remains were laid peacefully to rest in the Wakenda cemetery. Pioneer Resident of Grape Grove Township Passed Away at His Home Monday. Mr. Jacob F. Bowman, one of the early settlers in the Rockingham vicinity, in the northeastern part of Ray county, died Monday at his home in that section. The funeral services were conducted at eleven o’clock from the Wakendah church by Rev. E.G. Rodabaugh, on Wednesday. Mr. Bowman was a Virginian by birth, born in Rockingham county, on March 18, 1852, and was a son of David B. and Annie Bowman. Mr. Bowman’s parents came to Ray county with their family of twelve children in 1857. On October 16, 1890, he was married to Miss Jennie Templeton, who with their six children survives.
