Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Van Harold Bright Source: The Lawson Review 29 June 1972, p. 6 Funeral Services for Van Harold Bright Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the United Christian-Presbyterian Church for Van Harold Bright, 67, Lawson. The Rev. Gene Neas officiated. Mr. Bright died early Sunday morning while at work at the Bright farm located four miles north of Lawson. He had suffered with heart disease since March, 1955. Mr. Bright was born June 6, 1905 near Hardin, MO. Son of the late Fred Bright and Maude Van Pelt Bright who presently resides in Kansas City. Van H. Bright and Myrna Lake Crowley were united in marriage January 4, 1930 in Lawrence, Kansas. To this union a son, Van Frederick Bright, was born July 26, 1948. Mr. Bright joined the Polo Christian Church at an early age, later transferring his membership to the Lawson Christian Church. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bright served as a Military Police Escort Guard in the European Theater. He served from March, 1943 to September, 1945 and received five bronze stars for five major battles, was awarded the meriterious service badge, good conduct medal, and three citations from his company. Mr. Bright served the Lawson Special Road District for 25 years. He was a member of the Lawson Masonic Lodge and the Clyde Gustine Post of the American Legion, Excelsior Springs. Besides his wife and son, Mr. Bright is survived by a granddaughter, Kara Lee Bright, Lawson, his mother Maude Van Pelt Bright, two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Dodds and Mrs. Immell Prichard, Kansas City, MO., One brother, F.R. Bright, Overland Park, KS and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bright helped rear a niece, Betty Crowley Gray and a nephew, Bill Mac Crowley, both of Lawson. The Jarman Funeral Home, Lawson, was in charge of arrangements.
