Richmond Missourian, Richmond, Ray County, Missouri; Front Page obit: Death of Mrs. Bright Widow of the Late Samuel B. Bright Died at Hickory Grove, Saturday. Mrs. Mariah Louisa Bright, widow of the late Samuel B. Bright, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Broughton, in the Hickory Grove country, Saturday afternoon, January 1, 1916, at 12:30 o’clock, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 6 days, following an illness of only a few days of grip. Mrs. Bright was born in Mitchell, Indiana, August 26, 1841. She was a daughter of James and Sophia Hamer, natives of the state of Indiana. On July 7, 1859 she was married to Mr. Samuel B. Bright at Mitchell. They moved to Missouri several years later settling on a farm in Ray County. To this union were born ten children, eight of whom survive, vis: John, Albert and Anjil, residents of the Russellville country; Charles, Arch and Edward of the Morton country; W.H. a resident of Richmond; Mrs. Broughton, with whom she made her home. The husband died on December 13, 1909. Mrs. Bright had been a member of the Methodist denomination for a number of years in Ray County and had a host of friends who sympathize with the children and other relatives in their hour of sadness. The funeral services were held from the Hickory Grove Church, conducted by Rev. J.J. Reed, of Hardin, Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock.
