Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - W. C. Barrett, Rev. d. ? b. July 10, 1810 d. cem. Lawson Cemetery sp: Nancy King pd. p. Ray County Conservator obit: Death of Rev. W.C. Barrett Rev. W.C. Barrett, one of the oldest and best known ministers of the Baptist church in Missouri, died at his home in Lathrop last Saturday morning. Mr. Barrett was born in Wood County, W. Va., on July 10th, 1810; was married to Miss Nancy King in 1830, and entered the Baptist ministry in 1845. In 1856, he came to Missouri, locating in Clay county. During the 48 years of his ministrial life he had built eleven churches and held many pastorates, among them being Plattsburg, Richmond, Liberty, Lawson and Lathrop. Wherever he had lived and labored he was respected for his deep piety and for his kind and unselfish Christian character. He was the father of Rev. T. W. Barrett, president of Stephens’ college at Columbia and grandfather of W. G. Barrett, editor of the Columbia Herald. His remains were taken to Lawson on Tuesday for interment in the beautiful little cemetery at that place. Impressive funeral services were held at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. G. L. Black of Liberty. Brief addresses were made by Revs. R. G. Tutt of Liberty, R. H. Jones of Edgerton, ---- Neff of Lathrop, Lee Harrell of Plattsburg, C.F. Arnold of Lathrop, Dr. W.R. Rothwell of William Jewell college, and S.F. Taylor of Liberty, all of whom had known and loved the grand old man and looked to him for counsel and advice.
