Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Mrs. May Cates (1871-1957) Richmond News, Oct. 23, 1957 Rites Saturday for Mrs. May Cates; Died Wednesday Funeral services will be held for Mrs. May O. Cates, 86, native Richmond resident, at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thurman Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. J. O. Craig. Burial will be in Sunny Slope cemetery. Mrs. Cates, who has lived for the past 40 years in Kansas City, Kans., died Wednesday at 8:05 a.m. at the Boone county hospital, Boone, Ia. She had been taken to the hospital two weeks ago when she became ill while she and her husband, J. Matt Cates, were visiting their granddaughter, Mrs. George Doran, Ogden, Ia. Mrs. Cates was born in Richmond Sept. 10, 1871, and lived her until she and her husband moved away 40 years ago. Her parents were William H. And Phoebe Orleans (Perkins) Douglas, of Iowa and Alabama, respectively. She was married to Mr. Cates, also of Richmond, Dec. 15, 1890.
