Ray County Conservator obit: Death By Drowning Dr. Fraker of Excelsior Springs Loses His Life in the Big Muddy at Camden. Word reached here on Tuesday evening that Dr. G.W. Fraker, physician at the Elms hotel of Excelsior Springs, had been drowned that day in the Missouri river at Camden. We have been unable to learn the full particulars of the sad affair, but from what we can gather the accident happened in about this wise: Dr. Fraker and a party of friends left Excelsior Springs on Monday evening for a few days hunting and fishing in the Missouri river bottom near Camden. They had spent Monday between Orrick and Camden and Tuesday morning began fishing in the river near the latter place. Dr. Fraker and some of his companions were seated on the bank of the stream unconscious of danger, when suddenly and without warning the earth caved in and precipitated them into the water. All escaped but Dr. Fraker who was carried down by the caving earth and buried in the waters of the treacherous stream. He was not seen to rise after the accident, and a search was at once instituted for his body. All day Tuesday and yesterday searching parties were dragging the river but up to last night they had failed to find the body. Dr. Fraker was a member of several secret societies, each of which has sent a committee to assist in the search. He carried life insurance to the amount of $55,000, which will go to his two sisters. He was an eccentric individual and his peculiarities had caused his wife to leave him some time ago and procure a divorce. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
