The announcement of the death of Jesse Goldsbury, which occurred Saturday morning at St. Joseph, came as a shock to his many friends and relatives in Lawson. Mr. Goldsbury had been ill for several months and about three months ago he was placed in a hospital at St. Joseph, and it was not known that his condition was so serious and the announcement of his death came very unexpected. Deceased was born April 25, 1857, in Platte County, Mo., near Weston, and died January 15, 1916; age 58 years, 8 months and 20 days. He came to Ray county when a young man and lived in the country east of Lawson until about ten years ago when he moved his family to town. He was a son of James Riley and Many Ann Goldsbury who preceeded him in death by a number of years, and one of a family of ten children, five of whom are living. He was married to Sallie Preston October 2, 1884. To this union was born one son, Orval L. who with the widow, four brothers, Mack of Oklahoma, James, Charles and John of Lawson, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Wilcox of Inman, Nebr., survive him. Early in life he professed faith in Christ and untied with the Baptist church, and lived ever faithful to his Master. The body was brought to Lawson Sunday evening and funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. John Clevenger.
